We have potatoes!

This is just a very quick blog to update you on progress at Plot 6.

One of the first things I planted was a couple of packs of potatoes - in fact the last two packs that Poundland in Bicester had in stock... Ever since I have been eager to dig up a couple and see how they've done.

Last Sunday morning I made my way to the allotment with all my 'building' tools and enough decking timber to make my second raised bed. After building the raised bed and straightening the edge of the second path, I decided to harvest some produce.

The courgettes are still going strong - more about that in another post - and the dwarf runner beans are just coming to the end of their season, but it was the potatoes I was most interested in. I dug a couple of roots and although the potatoes ranged from pea sized to nearly the size of a tennis ball, I was pleasantly surprised.

The first potatoes, along with more courgettes and the last of the beans
Jo loves something called 'Zucchini Slice' which I think is an Australian recipe, but I may be wrong. Jan (Jo's mum) had made a large 'slice' at the weekend using some of my courgettes, and I thought along with some of Jan's homegrown tomatoes and my fresh produce it would make a great tea:

Zucchini Slice, boiled new potatoes, beans, carrots, and tomatoes, YUM!
That's all for now, watch out soon for a recipe for everyone who is suffering from a glut of courgettes.
